Salesforce is a powerful tool for business. As with many of the most high-powered digital platforms, you can benefit from appropriate administration setup and maintenance. Particularly in a time when data access and security are of the utmost concern, you can’t afford to do anything that could compromise the safety and reliability of your Salesforce data.

Danger: Exposed Data

Your Salesforce data may not be as secure as you’d like, simply because of how your permissions are set up, whether you’re monitoring the data, and the security protocols you’ve implemented.

User management: Depending on how you’re currently setting up and managing your users, you could be giving your employees too much access to sensitive data.

Monitoring: You have the ability to access real-time monitoring of data, but if it’s not set up properly, you’re not receiving the alerts you need. By monitoring events, you can immediately address data breaches, particularly via employee devices.

Security policies: Salesforce out of the box provides very loose security policies. It requires an experienced administrator to configure and implement an appropriate security posture in today’s “cloud always on” world.

Danger: Faulty Salesforce Dashboard

The Salesforce Dashboard is an important tool for decision-makers and stakeholders. It’s the control center. You’re able to see your metrics at a glance via charts and graphs while you analyze data and identify KPIs. While 41% of organizations say that they aren’t able to sift through the mountain of data or make sense of it, the Salesforce Dashboard makes that a quick-and-easy task. Unfortunately, though, it’s also possible to miss out on the powerful possibilities of your Dashboard. Here are a few issues that you are probably encountering. Unfortunately, the Dashboard could be set up with the incorrect dashboard components.

Wrong or old details: You’ll encounter problems (and errors) when the Source Report is not added or shared properly, when the wrong Source report is added, and when you don’t have access.

Insufficient permissions: If you don’t have the appropriate permissions, you’re probably seeing the following error: “The running user for this dashboard does not have permission to run reports.” You need a System Admin to adjust your permissions so that you can monitor and manipulate the appropriate data.

Field level security: It can be a great security feature, or it can be extremely inconvenient. Your access to data can be restricted based on field- or object-level security.

Danger: Input Issues

Without proper processes, you likely don’t have a consistent workflow for how your data is entered (or imported), by whom, and whether the data is validated along the way. The accuracy of your reporting will be as good as the data that you enter.

Data import frenzy: It’s easy to get excited about new import data, particularly with the Data Import Wizard. You can easily import 50,000 records consisting of account details, contacts, and other data. You can import as many as five million records with the Data Loader. Before you complete the import, though, you must clean and prepare the data and make sure that it’s set up for the best possible implementation. If you don’t follow the appropriate processes, you’ll end up with problems.

Duplicate content: You should remove all duplicates before you import data. You can also set up rules to alert the person who is entering the data about the duplicate content. Depending on your preferred workflow, you can prevent the entry of a duplicate record.

Field mapping: Data and field mapping is part of the clean-up process before you upload, but it really deserves further discussion. You may have cleaned up the data file(s), but you still need to make sure that it’s correctly mapped.
